FAIRMONT– In order to fill a void in the community, Kim White, owner of Fairmont Awards Manufacturing Inc., opened up Fairmont Men’s Formal Wear & More in 2020. The store shares the same building as Fairmont Awards at 310 Downtown Plaza.
“There was nowhere around here that offered it. The community was lacking in men’s clothing and formal wear,” White said.
With the closures of Enderson’s Clothing and Golden Tie Tuxes in Fairmont, both of which offered men’s formal wear, White felt that they should step up and expand their inventory.
She said they ended up getting some business in 2020 despite the Covid-19 pandemic and last year was even better. So far, 2022 is shaping up to be their best year yet.
“We have people who come from all over, as far as Jackson, Estherville and Wells,” White said.
For prom, White asked that people call for an appointment and either bring the dress or swatch of the dress to color match. She said they have four different shades of navy, six shades of grey, maroon, black, white and even more colors. They also have fun prints for prom.
“For prom we ask that people book sooner than later to guarantee your first choice in your size,” White said.
She said the same goes for weddings and that all sizes need to be in six weeks before the big day.
Tuxedos and suits can be rented and White said they also sell suits and that it will take up to six weeks for them to come in. She shared that as of now they do not tailor in-house.
Fairmont Men’s Formal Wear & More also offers men’s dress shirts, ties, dress pants, sport coats, belts, cuff links and dress shoes. The store also offers some higher end women’s clothing.
Fairmont Awards has been an established business since 1965. It moved to its current location on the last block of Downtown Plaza in 2006 and White has owned it since 2017.
She suggested people visit their Facebook page: Fairmont Men’s Formal Wear & More. She said there is a link on the page with their virtual catalog.
Hours for the store are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
