Portland State Basketball has added another Division I transfer to its roster for the 2022-23 season with the signing of Jorell Saterfield to a grant-in-aid agreement.
Saterfield, a 6-4 perimeter player, comes to PSU after playing last season at UTEP. He has also played two seasons at Ranger Junior College in Texas. Due to the COVID-19 waiver for the 2020-21 season, he will be a junior with two years of eligibility remaining.
“Jorell is a very experienced player who can score in a variety of different ways,” said Viking Coach Jase Coburn. “He has shot the ball really well from three-point range, but he can also put it on the floor, get to the rim and pull up on the drive. He is a highly competitive and athletic player and knows how to win.”
Said Coburn: “We are excited to get him back to the northwest. He spent one season in high school playing for (Viking assistant coach) Jamaal Williams in Seattle.”
Saterfield graduated from Mayfield High School in Las Cruces, NM. As a senior he averaged 28.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals. Saterfield then competed for two seasons at Ranger College in Texas. As a freshman, he averaged 12.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, shot .595 from the field and .400 from three-point range. In his second season, Saterfield averaged 18.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and shot .520 from the field, .471 from three-point range and .803 at the free throw line.
Last year, Saterfield transferred to UTEP. He played in 33 games, including 18 starts and logged 21.0 minutes per game. Saterfield averaged 5.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and shot .434 from behind the arc (49-113).
